Rome and kilts , what an incongruous juxtaposition. But kilts and togas are perhaps not so far removed! Wonderful sunny day too with a vibrant atmosphere #developingyoureye

So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, adieu……..
Today sees the end of the academic year, with still so much to do over the coming weeks in preparation for another. My desk was covered in piles of work, with staff to interview, July payroll to be checked, negotiating leases and a myriad of other things to do. We had twelve staff either retiring,Continue reading “So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, adieu……..”
Ballots, balls and dreams…..a tale of Wimbledon 2016
In November last year I entered the ballot for Wimbledon tickets for the second year and to be honest, forgot all about it, until February when a letter arrived to say I had been allocated two tickets for Centre Court on the 10th July. A quick calculation, the realisation hit that they were tickets onContinue reading “Ballots, balls and dreams…..a tale of Wimbledon 2016”
A weekend of cricket, rugby and cricket……
Last weekend my dear friend and I travelled to Birmingham for an England v Sri Lanka one day international. We arrived in good time, and picked up a reasonably healthy lunch time chicken wrap. You can see by the photo that we were optimistic about the weather! We were high up, and as a vertigoContinue reading “A weekend of cricket, rugby and cricket……”
A maritime weekend
First stop on Saturday was the ocean terminal, Southampton, to board the P &O Azura. I am reluctant to cruise, so an opportunity to see what is offered, get a feel of who cruises, seemed a perfect way to have a look without parting with too much cash. Lots of bars and restaurants and aContinue reading “A maritime weekend”
A Fond Farewell…
After the Bank Holiday we returned to school and ensured that all plans were in place for the funeral at OLI for Tony Ward and for the ‘wake’ to be held at the school after. The sun was shining on Wednesday and the Mass, readings and eulogies were a fitting send off for him, andContinue reading “A Fond Farewell…”
The other side of the coin…
Heard on Friday that a teacher at school and his wife were safely delivered of a daughter. That’s the news I’ve been hoping for. New life, and the hope and optimism it brings with it. Dreams and plans for the family and future open up. But how quickly it goes. Terrible twos, teenage dirtbags, allContinue reading “The other side of the coin…”
Flower of Scotland
Yesterday brought sad news, once again, that a very special teacher at school, had passed away. Tony Ward had suffered a stroke whilst on a field trip on the 21st March and spent his remaining days in hospital, surrounded by family and friends. He appeared to rally, then falter, rally and then pneumonia set in.Continue reading “Flower of Scotland”
Parental guidance
For mum’s 80th birthday we bought her an iPad and to her credit she has coped wonderfully with the technology. We rarely speak on the phone these days, preferring FaceTime and that provides the opportunity to see each other too. Oh and occasionally I enjoy the waist high view of my Dad! Mum sent meContinue reading “Parental guidance”
Calcutta cup
So a long weekend was in front of us to go to murrayfield for the Calcutta cup. Not the best of starts to be told our train ‘wasn’t happening’ by a gentleman who was to customer service what genghis Khan was to UN peace. A stop at Carlisle for an hour to await our busContinue reading “Calcutta cup”
One twelfth of 2016 gone!
So that was January and we have celebrated a couple of birthdays wth my successful completion of dry January! We celebrated Joe’ s birthday last Thursday at the giggling squid, with a few giggles of our own! This was closely followed by a night out on Monday , courtesy of groupon.Continue reading “One twelfth of 2016 gone!”
Early days!
Before the move to England I enjoyed a happy childhood with two sets of grandparents Grandma and Grandda Ramsay and Dora, who we visited often. We would stay with the Dora grandparents Joe and Tini (short for Valentina) as they had an attic at the very top of the building above the Thistle fish andContinue reading “Early days!”
First post!
When I was a lot younger I never thought I would marry, let alone have a family, but I have been blessed with a fantastic husband Kevin, and three wonderful children Andrew, Joseph and Georgina, who have given us such a rich and varied family life. It’s been a privilege to see them grow bothContinue reading “First post!”
