On Sunday I did the journey up to Scotland for a few days with Mum. A two hour delay meant a later than expected arrival and a refund of the cost!
Monday was a busy day seeing people who help mum on a daily, weekly basis and awaiting a delivery of a new chair.
Chair arrived and I put it together, we also started a puzzle ( the wine regions of Italy) and we enjoyed a pizza for dinner and a glass of montepulciano.

Tuesday didn’t start well with Mum having a fall, a little sore and bruised we went on a trip to Dundee for a consultation for a cataract procedure. The accord clinic put mum at her ease and she reluctantly has agreed to the procedure, we just need to get a date sorted.
Nando’s beckoned with the recommendation of the sunset burger and this didn’t disappoint. We walked to Primark and Boots to buy a few bits for a baby shower and I bought some clothes for our grandsons.
Once home we continued with the puzzle, had dinner, and a visit from a neighbour which was lovely.
All too soon it was Wednesday and the train home. I’d made up a bag with lunch, drink and treats for the journey home.
I said my goodbyes, big hugs all round and left with a heavy heart. I felt Dad’s loss keenly this time and also it’s hard seeing Mum being so brave and strong in so many ways, but also the effects of her memory loss, but thankfully not her sense of humour.
Taxi arrived and dropped me at the station. Walking slowly along the platform I realised I’d left my food, so called the taxi driver and asked did he have time to get it from Mum’s and get back. He said he’d try.
I also called Mum so that she had the bag ready and waiting. I spoke to the station manager as to whether the train was delayed. It wasn’t in fact it arrived a tad early, so I had to get on. The taxi driver called and said he was there, if I went to the train door. I did and I couldn’t see him so I said eat what you want, and thank you for trying.
Train set off and the Train manager came on the tannoy and said ‘the lady that got on at Arbroath that had forgotten her lunch, I have it here, if you could make your way to coach G’. I burst out laughing!
Oh how I felt I was doing the walk of shame through the four coaches.
I’m grateful to everyone who helped me and my lunch to be reunited.
The journey home was delayed also by other issues and I spent a wonderful few hours with a wonderful woman who is now finding her feet with a new normal. It was humbling to speak to her.
Twice in one week my faith in human kindness has been galvanised.

Until next time…..
